ZVB and the municipality of Oberägeri want to develop the ZVB site as a location for a care centre

30.01.2026 | The Zugerland Verkehrsbetriebe AG (ZVB) site in the village centre of Oberägeri (ZVB site) is to be developed. ZVB is offering part of its site to the municipality of Oberägeri for the construction of the care centre. ZVB would like to realise family flats on the other part of the site. The realisation is now being examined in a joint, partnership-based planning process.

ZVB owns plot GS 262 ("ZVB site") in the centre of Oberägeri village, which is currently home to the outdated Oberägeri bus depot and bus stop, among other things. The ZVB needs a modern and larger depot infrastructure in the Aegeri valley so that it can continue to fulfil its mission in the future and meet the growing demand for mobility. The "Ländli Park" construction project of the Ländli Foundation, which provides for the integration of the ZVB depot, would solve the operational requirements of the ZVB. If the new Oberägeri-Station transfer point, for which the ZVB is also offering land, is also realised, new opportunities will arise for the ZVB site that becomes available. In this context, ZVB is offering the municipality part of the site for the realisation of the care centre. It would like to build family flats on the remaining area itself.

In recent months, the Oberägeri municipal council has analysed the issue of the location for the new care centre in greater depth and compared various sites. The Maienmatt site would be suitable for a new building, but the ZVB site opens up additional possibilities. The ZVB site is located in the centre of the village, right next to the planned new bus interchange. It offers space for the needs of a modern care centre and is optimally developed. This opens up a centralised and future-oriented solution for the municipality. The new location option brings advantages for all parties involved. A care centre in a central location strengthens the proximity to services, promotes encounters and supports life in the village centre. The use of the Maienmatt site can thus be rethought and opportunities arise for the municipality's other important infrastructure projects.

The ZVB and the municipality of Oberägeri intend to organise a project competition in a joint, partnership-based process in order to identify the possibilities for the development of this central part of the village on the ZVB site. In a declaration of intent, the two parties have confirmed the location for the care centre and defined the common will and framework for the upcoming process. With the "Ländli Park" triangle, transfer point and "ZVB-Areal" development for families and a care centre, Oberägeri can be developed in a forward-looking and population-oriented way.

In March 2026, residents and the general public will be informed in more detail about the possibilities and the planned process.
