CO2-neutraler Linienbetrieb bis 2035

The ZVB has outlined a roadmap to the e-future. The aim is to achieve_CO2-neutral line operation by 2035, a goal that is being pursued in stages that are periodically reviewed and adjusted as necessary. Lines will be reorganised and e-buses will be used more frequently to achieve this.

Thanks to this step-by-step approach, the ZVB is constantly learning and benefiting from technological developments. We are also actively monitoring other drive technologies.

Operational and financial feasibility is a prerequisite for achieving the 2035 target. It is crucial that financial viability is ensured and that the necessary funds are made available for_CO2-free public transport operations in Zug. The knowledge gained from operating the e-buses is very valuable and will be incorporated into further planning on an ongoing basis. The ZVB will move into a new main base in 2031 that is suitably equipped for the new technologies.

45 electric buses in the ZVB fleet

By the end of January 2026, the ZVB’s fleet will comprise a total of 45 electric buses. Through the ongoing expansion of electric transport, the ZVB is making a significant contribution to environmentally friendly and forward-looking public transport.

Nine new articulated electric buses have arrived

We have taken delivery of nine new electric buses. Nine out of a total of 17 fully electric eCitaro G buses are now in service. This represents a major step forward on our journey towards achieving a CO₂-neutral bus service by 2035.

Our electric fleet comprises 24 vehicles, including two electric midibuses, which are used as local buses, and one electric tractor unit. The design of the electric trailer combination is a world first.

21 electric buses, now fitted with pantographs

With the timetable change in December 2023, the proportion of our electric vehicles will rise to 21, or over 15 per cent. What’s new for us is that we’re still charging them at the depot, but using pantographs.

As many as 12 buses – or 10 per cent – are electric

The eight electric articulated buses that have been ordered will arrive in autumn 2022. By the end of 2022, 10 per cent of the buses operating for the ZVB will already be electric.

Workshop becomes an e-competence centre

Our workshop is one of only two in Switzerland to have been awarded the EvoBus e-certificate. This enables it to carry out repairs and maintenance on electric buses, electric lorries and electric cars.

At last! The
first electric bus has arrived

Our first fully electric bus has been in service since autumn 2019 – a Mercedes-Benz eCitaro. We are absolutely delighted to have Zug’s first electric bus.

The first electric school bus has been in service in Neuheim since August 2026.
