Zug Alliance Association
The ZUG ALLIANCE brings together stakeholders from business, academia and politics to accelerate the decarbonisation of energy, infrastructure and mobility. The ZVB is a founding member.
Driven by the business community, supported by the scientific community and in close collaboration with the canton and the city of Zug, the ZUG ALLIANCE was founded in September 2024. The aim of the newly founded association is to promote cross-sector collaboration in order to decarbonise energy and transport more rapidly. The aim is to create flagship projects that will accelerate the transition to a more sustainable future.
From 2050, Switzerland aims to emit no more greenhouse gases into the atmosphere than are absorbed by natural and technical storage systems (net-zero target). Many businesses are already aiming to achieve the net-zero target earlier. This can only be achieved through intelligent sector coupling and requires collaboration across traditional boundaries.
The ZUG ALLIANCE association has been established as a platform where representatives from the technology and industrial sectors, property and site development, as well as public and private motorised transport and energy supply, can work together.
The association was founded by AMAG Group AG, Tech Cluster Zug AG, Siemens Switzerland AG, Cham Group AG, Zug Estates AG, Zugerland Verkehrsbetriebe AG and WWZ AG. This was done in close collaboration with the Canton of Zug and the City of Zug, and with academic support fromthe University of St. Gallen.
The first three projects of the ZUG ALLIANCE are supported by the Canton of Zug. The ‘Grid-friendly Charging’ project is piloting bidirectional charging at the ‘Vehicle-to-Building’ and ‘Vehicle-to-Grid’ levels at the Papieri site, the Volkswagen showroom in Cham and the Schluechthof Agricultural Education and Advisory Centre (LBBZ). The ‘Virtual Power Plant Zug (VKZG)’ pilot project aims to strengthen the resilience of the energy supply in the canton of Zug. Local electricity producers, consumers, providers of electrical storage solutions and grid operators are to be brought together within an innovative system. In the third project, ‘Automated Ride-pooling’, the Canton of Zug has commissioned the ZUG ALLIANCE to carry out a feasibility study on the integration of automated ride-pooling vehicles. The aim of the study is to gain a better understanding of the possibilities for implementation in Zug, with a view to potentially taking on a pioneering role in Switzerland in the field of automated ride-pooling.
The ZUG ALLIANCE is led by its two co-managing directors, Bernhard Soltermann (AMAG Group AG) and Andreas Bittig (Tech Cluster Zug AG).
