The ZVB is moving towards carbon neutrality: 19 new electric buses from summer 2025

02.07.2025 | Zugerland Verkehrsbetriebe AG (ZVB) is setting another milestone on the way to CO₂-neutral public transport operations by 2035: from summer 2025, 19 modern articulated electric buses will be added to the existing electric fleet. This will increase the proportion of electric vehicles from 26 today to 45. These new vehicles will replace older diesel models and take the ZVB a big step forward with its climate strategy.

With the continuous expansion of the electric bus fleet, the ZVB is consistently pursuing its goal of making public bus operations in the Zug region completely CO₂-neutral by 2035 at the latest. Thanks to the charging infrastructure that has already been set up with foresight and the option of maintaining the electric buses in the ZVB workshop - including the necessary rooftop workstations and specially trained staff - the integration of the new vehicles is optimally prepared. The proportion of electrically powered vehicles in the ZVB fleet will increase significantly with this delivery, thus reducing CO₂ emissions in daily service operations. For every kilometre that the ZVB travels with an e-bus instead of a diesel bus, emissions are reduced by around one kilogramme of_CO2.

Construction Director Florian Weber emphasises the importance of this milestone for the implementation of the cantonal energy and climate strategy: "The canton of Zug needs future-proof and sustainable mobility. This includes, in particular, a well-developed and_CO2-neutral public transport service in the medium term." Cyrill Weber, CEO of Zugerland Verkehrsbetriebe AG, is delighted with the modern addition to the fleet: "We are expecting 19 modern vehicles with a new quality standard in terms of equipment. It is a big step towards a_CO2-neutral future, which will also significantly increase travelling comfort for our customers."

New design and sustainability in the interior

In addition to the climate-friendly drive technology, the new buses also have a revised interior design. Passengers can look forward to a brighter, friendlier passenger compartment. The new design also includes modern seat covers made from E-Leather - an innovative material made from recycled leather scraps. This sustainable product is easy to care for, durable and is already being used successfully in other modes of transport.
