Significant increase in demand in timetable year 2024

06.03.2025 | Zugerland Verkehrsbetriebe AG (ZVB) transported 20.44 million passengers on its franchised routes in the Zug, Seetal and Freiamt regions in the 2024 timetable year. This is around 1.1 million passengers more than in the 2023 timetable year.

The three regions of the ZVB route network - Zug, Seetal and Freiamt - developed differently in the 2024 timetable year. Demand increased the most in the Zug region, rising by a good 6 per cent. Particularly pleasing growth rates were seen on those lines that were expanded for the 2024 timetable year and were able to directly absorb the rising demand. The significantly expanded line concept in the direction of Ägerital had a positive overall effect on demand.

The ZVB was unable to identify any major differences in demand on weekdays; commuter behaviour as a mix of office and home office days appears to have become established. However, the above-average use of the tourist lines from Oberägeri in the direction of Raten or Sattel and Rothenthurm (line 609 +42.0 %, line 610 +32.4 %) and Sunday journeys in general (+8%) is striking. This indicates an above-average increase in leisure traffic.

The Seetal region recorded a considerable and constant increase in passengers of 5 per cent, whereas the Freiamt region recorded a decline of 3 per cent in 2024. The two lines in Freiamt are heavily influenced by school transport and are therefore subject to greater fluctuations than other regions.

In total, Zugerland Verkehrsbetriebe was able to transport 20.44 million passengers in the 2024 timetable year on all lines, including the overnight express service and the enhanced services, which is 6 per cent more than in the previous year.
