Ground-breaking ceremony for the major An der Aa site project

09.04.2025 | Construction will soon begin on the An der Aa site of Zugerland Verkehrsbetriebe AG (ZVB). The ground-breaking ceremony on the Gaswerk site, where the temporary facilities are being built, was attended by around 70 people to mark the start of this intergenerational project.

The Areal An der Aa project will further develop the current ZVB site. A new 
the new ZVB main base and a building for the Zug Rescue Service and the cantonal administration will be built. In a later stage, two further buildings with flats and service areas will be realised. To ensure that ZVB and the Zug Rescue Service can continue to operate seamlessly at all times during the construction phase, temporary facilities are required 
Temporary facilities. These will be built on the Gaswerk site. The ground-breaking ceremony for these temporary facilities also marks the start of the construction phase of the An der Aa generation project.

Temporary accommodation for the fleets

The temporary facilities on the Gaswerk site comprise two buildings that will house the ZVB fleet of around 80 buses and the Zug rescue service. The two buildings are being realised by Strüby Unternehmungen using Swiss timber. The hall for the ZVB buses measures 82 by 20.5 metres and will be spanned by wooden girders, which will be used to suspend the bus electric charging bonnets on the outside. The building for the emergency services will have three storeys and an area of 88 by 12.5 metres. The building will be constructed using efficient timber element construction and will have a timber façade. A photovoltaic system (average annual energy yield 107,750 kWh) and a heat pump for heating and hot water will be installed for the energy supply.

Construction will take around a year, with work starting on 1 April 2025. The temporary buildings are expected to be occupied in summer 2026. This will be followed by the dismantling of the buildings on the An der Aa site and the start of the main construction phase on the ZVB site.

Ceremonial ground-breaking ceremony with 70 people

"We have been working on this project for 16 years," summarises Peter Letter, Chairman of the Board of Directors of ZVB, in his historical review. "Today is therefore more than just a milestone for us, it's more of a summit experience." Cyrill Weber, CEO of ZVB, also emphasised the enormous joy of the start of construction in his remarks and thanked everyone involved for their tireless efforts and great support. Florian Weber, Cantonal Councillor of Zug and Director of Construction, emphasised the importance of public transport and rescue services for the canton and the significance of the Areal An der Aa construction project.

The ground-breaking ceremony was celebrated together with around 70 representatives of the construction companies, employees of the ZVB and the canton, the authorities involved and supporting politicians as well as former participants.
