Great joy: planning permission has been granted

03.02.2025 | Zugerland Verkehrsbetriebe AG (ZVB) is pleased to announce that the city of Zug has granted planning permission for the new ZVB main base and the building for the Zug rescue service and cantonal administration as part of the forward-looking "Areal An der Aa" project. This construction project will create modern infrastructure for public transport and the rescue service and, at a later stage, will provide new living space in the centre of Zug.

The current ZVB operating site An der Aa will be completely renovated. Buses will be parked underground in the future new ZVB building. This will free up valuable space in a central location, on which residential and living space will be created at a later stage. In a second building, the Zug rescue service will have a modern base and the cantonal administration around 250 office workplaces. The Siehbach stream, which previously ran underground, will be uncovered and the loop dam will be upgraded as a biodiverse oasis for plants and animals.

The necessity of this project is undisputed: As early as 2027, it will no longer be possible to accommodate all the buses on the current site. In addition, the number of emergency service calls has doubled in the last ten years, which requires a modern and expanded infrastructure. After more than 14 years of intensive planning and preparation and the successful, clear approval of the development plan by the electorate in March 2024, the granting of the building permit now marks a decisive milestone.

The construction work will be carried out in several stages to ensure the ongoing operation of the ZVB and the rescue service. Appropriate temporary facilities for the two vehicle fleets will be built on the nearby "Gaswerkareal" site on Aabachstrasse. The ZVB is expected to move into its new main base in 2030.
