Long-term goal 2035: CO₂-neutral line operation

Experience to date with our e-buses in regular service has been good. The ZVB is gradually implementing e-mobility with the aim of operatingCO2-neutral bus routes by 2035.

The ZVB has outlined a roadmap to the e-future. The long-term goal isCO2-neutral line operation in 2035. This goal is being pursued in stages, which will be reviewed periodically and adjusted if necessary. As this nears, routes will be converted and e-buses will be used more frequently (see also E-Linien | Zugerland Verkehrsbetriebe ZVB).

Thanks to this step-by-step approach, the ZVB is constantly learning and benefiting from technological developments. We are also actively monitoring other drive technologies.

Operational and financial feasibility is a prerequisite for achieving the long-term goal of 2035. It is crucial that the financial viability is secured and that the appropriate funds are made available forCO2-free public transport operations in Zug. The knowledge gained from the first e-buses is very valuable and will be incorporated into the planning of the new ZVB main base. The new building, which is expected to be ready for occupation in 2031, will be optimised for the new technologies.

E-mobility is part of the ZVB

E-mobility is an integral part of the corporate strategy. The procurement of e-buses is part of this. But that's not all: employees should be able to experience e-mobility. E-bikes, an e-road bike and electric company cars are available for this purpose.

The e-future put to the test

We are investing in the e-future. The employees in the workshop are being specially trained to maintain the new technology. An e-charging station is being installed on our premises. And our company is testing various vehicle types.

At last! The first e-bus is here

Our first fully electric e-bus has been in service since autumn 2019 - an eCitaro from Mercedes Benz. We are delighted to have the first e-bus for Zug.

Workshop becomes an e-competence centre

Our workshop is one of two companies in Switzerland to obtain the e-certificate from EvoBus. This means it can carry out repairs and maintenance on e-buses, e-trucks and e-cars.

E-Line 13 as pilot

We are getting three new standard electric buses and are completely converting the neighbourhood line 13 on a trial basis. Residents and passers-by alike will benefit from the quiet electric vehicles.

Already 12 buses or 10% are electric

The eight articulated electric buses ordered will arrive in autumn 2022. By the end of 2022, 10% of the buses travelling for the ZVB will be electric.

21 e-buses, new with pantographs

With the timetable change in December 2023, our electric share will increase to 21 vehicles or over 15%. New for us: we still charge at the depot, but with pantographs.
