ZVB is turning a new page: ground-breaking ceremony for the ‘Areal An der Aa’ construction project
29 June 2026 | Since 1953, the headquarters of Zugerland Verkehrsbetriebe AG (ZVB) has been located on its site at An der Aa in Zug. Planning for a new building and the comprehensive development of this central site began in 2009. Today, the launch of this construction project was celebrated with over 100 people from the worlds of politics, public authorities, partner companies and staff at the ground-breaking ceremony, thereby opening a new chapter in the history of ZVB.
The ‘Areal An der Aa’ construction project will see the further development of the current ZVB site. A new ZVB headquarters will be built, along with a building for the Zug Emergency Services (RDZ) and the cantonal administration, which are due to be occupied in 2030. In a second phase, starting in 2031, two further buildings comprising over 160 flats and commercial premises will be constructed on the northern part of the site.
To ensure that the operations of both the ZVB and the Zug Ambulance Service can continue seamlessly at all times during the construction phase, temporary facilities have been erected and occupied on the nearby gasworks site. This means that demolition work can officially begin in July 2026. As the main contractor, Losinger Marazzi will construct the two buildings for the ZVB, the Zug emergency services and the cantonal administration. The Zug Pension Fund will take over the northern construction site under a building lease.
Ground-breaking ceremony attended by over 100 guests
In his speech, Peter Letter, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the ZVB, emphasised the “significance of this generational project” not only for the ZVB, but also for the development of the neighbourhood and the people of Zug. After all, both public transport and the emergency services are services that simply have to function. And this requires a suitable, modern infrastructure.
Cyrill Weber, Managing Director of ZVB, thanked the staff who have been working towards this moment for years. “Construction requires patience; it requires specialist expertise, perseverance and a team that stands united behind the overarching goal – a functioning public transport system for Zug.”
To meet mobility requirements and cope with rising demand, the new ZVB headquarters must be built, emphasised Florian Weber, Director of Public Works, highlighting the importance of the project: “A well-functioning public transport system contributes to the area’s appeal.”
Pascal Bärtschi, CEO of Losinger Marazzi, expressed his gratitude for being awarded the contract to construct the two buildings for the ZVB, the emergency services and the cantonal administration. In addition to adhering to the budget, deadlines and expected quality standards, Losinger Marazzi will, as always, place particular emphasis on the safety of everyone involved in this major project.
Around 100 representatives from politics, public authorities, partner companies and staff attended the ground-breaking ceremony.
