Solid growth and pioneering future projects

15.05.2025 | Zugerland Verkehrsbetriebe AG (ZVB) can look back on its 2024 financial year with great satisfaction. The 7 per cent expansion of services and the accompanying 6 per cent increase in demand were successfully implemented. In addition, groundbreaking milestones were reached in relevant future projects such as the expansion of electromobility and the construction of the new ZVB headquarters. ZVB closed the 2024 financial year with a solid profit of CHF 277,232.

ZVB's core business, public transport, was significantly expanded with the 2024 timetable. The 7 per cent increase in services was noticeable at all levels. Customers benefited from new travel chains and more frequent connections. Following initial experience, individual connection chains were optimised once again. Customers made greater use of the expanded offering, which is reflected in the year-on-year increase in frequencies of around 6 per cent. Growth in services always means internal growth. Accordingly, the number of employees was increased by 22 from 415 to 437 and the fleet was expanded by six vehicles. ZVB closed the 2024 financial year with a solid profit of CHF 277,232 on turnover of CHF 77.5 million.

With the expansion of e-mobility, ZVB is gradually and steadily moving towards a sustainable future. New e-buses are being integrated into operations on an ongoing basis. The aim is to operate completely_CO2-neutral bus services by 2035. In 2024, the ZVB's 26 e-buses covered a total of 1.39 million kilometres, avoiding the emission of around 1800 tonnes of_CO2. Our electric trailer bus - the towing vehicle is actually a world first in its design - which is mainly used on route 601, attracted a great deal of attention beyond national borders. For electrification to be possible, the charging infrastructure needs to be expanded with foresight, which is not always easy in terms of technology and construction.

The ZVB is part of the Climate Charter Zug+ initiative and is committed to sustainable employee mobility. Since 2024, it has been offering interested companies professional mobility advice and supporting them on their way to sustainable corporate mobility using a 4-phase model. The centrepiece of the B2B offering is FABOO, a digital platform for the efficient management and use of public transport travelcards that is unique in Switzerland. FABOO is already being used successfully by large employers, schools and public authorities.

The Areal An der Aa construction project, which includes the construction of the new ZVB headquarters, passed key milestones in 2024. Following a referendum, the development plan was put to the ballot box. With 81.3% in favour, voters clearly backed the project and showed that the population wants sustainable public transport with a modern infrastructure. Once the development plan had been approved, it was possible to apply for planning permission, which was finally granted on 28 January 2025. This marked the start of the construction phase after a 16-year planning and authorisation phase.
