Temporary accommodation on the Gaswerk site

To ensure that the ZVB and Zug Rescue Service continue to operate seamlessly during the construction phase, two temporary facilities will be set up on the nearby Gaswerk site.

The temporary facilities on the Gaswerk site comprise two buildings that will house the ZVB fleet of around 80 buses and the Zug rescue service. The two buildings are being realised by Strüby Unternehmungen using Swiss timber. The hall for the ZVB buses measures 82 by 20.5 metres and is spanned by wooden girders, which are used to suspend the bus electric charging bonnets on the outside. This timber construction is braced by a concrete part of the building, which houses the charging infrastructure for the electric buses. The building for the emergency services will have three storeys and an area of 88 by 12.5 metres, using wooden elements. The majority of the vehicles will not be covered, but will be parked outside.

The two temporary structures will take around a year to build, with construction starting on 1 April 2025. The temporary facilities are expected to be occupied in summer 2026. This will be followed by the demolition of the buildings on the An der Aa site and the start of construction on the ZVB site for the new main base of the ZVB and the new building for the RDZ and the cantonal administration.
